Hello from Sea Otter Sound!
I’ve traded fishing for vintage gems for fishing for halibut! I’m officially 4 weeks into my Alaskan adventure and what an experience it has been. To be totally transparent, it’s been full of highs and lows, unexpected challenges, grand adventures seeing new places and new wildlife and everything in between. It has been hard work and long days, but also very humbling and rewarding. I have learned new skills both indoors and outdoors; I can officially add ‘pastry chef’ to my resume! The fishing has been top notch and there’s nothing quite like catching and eating fresh Alaskan halibut, salmon, cod & bass! and did I mention I’m seeing so many whales and sea otters every day?!
I have also had much time for bible study, reading, journaling and reflection. While I don’t fully know what God intends for me to gain from this experience yet, I can say that I have grown closer to Him, developed personally, and have gained a much deeper gratitude in areas that have unintentionally been taken for granted.
I’ve got a couple more weeks so this journey isn’t over yet, and I can’t wait to share more of this experience. I’m very much looking forward to returning home and getting back to doing what I love and seeing my family, friends and customers! I do have a little confession…to get my thrift fix I’ve been watching whatnot live auctions and bidding on some pretty cool piecEs! I’ve got several boxes of auction items that will be waiting that are carefully curated just for you (and maybe a few keepers for me too! :) I’ve only made it to one thrift store at the nearest town of Craig, but plan to do some thrifting in Ketchikan where i’ll spend a couple days before returning home!
If I could leave you with one piece of advice - do something totally out of your comfort zone! I truly believe this is where growth happens. If it seems too big, too far, too unknown…answer the call, go in with no expectations and let God guide you!
